GRACE – THE VERB

Grace. Not just a noun or name we would have given our firstborn if he was a girl.

Grace is a word that can be used  in many scenarios and sentences, all of which can alter the meaning of the word. When researching the root-meaning of Grace in Hebrew I found it can depict: Graciousness, favour, prettiness, mercy or pardon, help, finding refuge and/or salvation.

But what does this word, grace, mean to me at this moment in time? In 2023?

Well, personally, I am currently reflecting on grace as a verb – of God’s constant and immeasurable love for me as His daughter.

1 John 3:1

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

As a mother myself, I see a glimmer of insight into my positioning as a child of God. For instance, my 5 year old loves me and knows I love him, yet he still pushes and pushes and pushes the boundaries of that love sometimes. For example, I was very embarrassed one day by Lachlan, knowing full well that my aunty always has chocolate for him, when he saw her was immediately demanding chocolate, as if that was his entitlement and birth-right. Is this disobedient… not exactly… but was he displaying the values I repeatedly teach him – to be polite, kind, caring and grateful? Where was the child I thought I was raising at that moment?

I know I am not alone as a parent in having this type of encounter.

But, what about me, with God? What kind of daughter am I being? Am I taking His grace for granted?

I hope not. I plan to continue to press into His purpose, worship though all seasons and seek Him for who He is.
